Mental health stigma prevents people from sharing their feelings with others…
Actually, the rise in mental health conditions is not something new. There has been a continuous rise in mental health conditions in the last decade. Mental health stigma refers to societal disapproval, or when society places shame on people who live with a mental illness or seek help for emotional distress, such as anxiety, depression, PTSD etc.
Challenges
A better way to connect and support fellow users, or keeping the light in “prism”.
A safe place to go through the darkness together, This is my app PRISM and it is an app that helps people connect and support each other as research has shown that mental health conditions are increasing worldwide, especially after the pandemic.
Design Solution
Designing the app has been a challenging and rewarding journey. More than the actual output, however- I’m immensely grateful to have been through an entire UX process so I can see what it’s actually like. The major challenge was to design an app that allows people to express their feelings freely without worrying about judgement or discrimination.
After conducting user interviews and usability testing with the target audience, and working with their feedback we needed consistency and a sense of calmness and safety when using the app . Through usability The same effects can be achieved though a simple smart phone app, hence- I stuck to an app for my final solution platform, but also including feedback from real users to validate the design, identify pain points, and refine the app experience.
Outcomes
Focus more on tradeoffs with each direction. This would mean to tail the app to the user’s specific needs, so more usability testing could be conducted on a diverse population in terms of ethnicity, gender, social, and economic status.
Be insight- not process-driven. I would need to work on enhancing my UI and presentation skills by reading/ learning and implanting the laws, theories, rules or pre-existing systems to reflect my work better.
Complete more deliverables to have a fully functional App. Things like ongoing support: An approach for maintaining and updating the app, as well as addressing user feedback and fixing bugs. Launch Plan: A roadmap for launching the app, including marketing, app store optimization, and user acquisition strategies. Technical Specification: A comprehensive documentation of the technical requirements for the app, including features, integrations, and APIs.
